Please permit me to address this issue which is a menace and if not nib in the bud will erode the basic foundation and principles our great party (NPP) is based on.
The NDC is now on an all round attack in the name of democracy to disgrace our former and the most successful president in the history of our dear nation Ghana. They embarked upon this mission from the ex-gratia then to vehicles now it is offices. These attacks can clearly be seen as an attempt to dent the image of this great man Dr (Lawyer) J A Kufuor. I believe what this man has done for mother Ghana can hardly be met by any past, present or future leader in Ghana. I do not wish to dwell too much on his achievement because it is clear for everyone to see and judge. He has been an example for the youth and people of Africa.
What has actually warranted this piece of article is that, I believe this is the time for the NPP to solidly stand behind this great man and rescue him from the disgraceful attacks by the NDC. Some people in the NPP have however taken it upon themselves to perpetuate these attacks at the detriment of the unity and peace that exist in the party. This is the man who not long ago we were campaigning on his platform of achievements, this is the man who has taken Ghana from nowhere to somewhere and this is the same man who has made Ghana a toast of the international community. In the Daquah-Busia-Domboh fraternity, he is the only man who has taken the party out of opposition after 30 years of being in the Wilderness, to win the party two general elections. I was astounded when I listened to Dan Kweku Botwe, some one I least expect could disrespect and tear our party into factions, lambasting JAK about the ex-gratia, and even went further to say JAK was not forced to be President, how unfortunate! In another development, a group calling itself Ga-adangbe youth club under the cover of NDC, threatened to evict JAK from his office, an act not only seen as disrespectful but foolish, irresponsible, tribalistic, egoistic and a diversionist behaviour Instead of Dan a former general secretary to chide this so called group, he rather blamed Frank Agyekum, the only man who has been defending JAK for all this while. Dan if your mission is on the same wavelength as the NDC I bet you will fail. I least expected a man like Dan to be making such utterances. What has come over some of our NPP members?
Dan should be reminded that NPP can do without him but can never do without JAK. JAK is a pillar in the party, he is the current reference point for all up and coming leaders in our party, he is like the Jesus and the Mohammed in Christianity and Islam respectively, so the earlier we accord JAK the needed respect the better it would be for Dan himself and the NPP in general. Again he should be reminded that JAK gave him the opportunity to serve as minister of information. He was only sacked when he failed to live up to expectation. What else do you want from JAK. Is it just show of gross impudence towards JAK or a pay back time for getting the boot for under performance? By the way have you abdicated your ambitions to be president? Is it the way to get to the top? To insult those who have been there and can pass on the experience to you? Se wo anyi ma ye a mensei medin.
When people like PV Obeng who is not a member of our party could defend JAK, how much more our own so called leaders. I don’t want to believe that factions exist in NPP, however utterances from some people perceived to be prominent in the party give cause to believe that these attacks are well orchestrated. Yaw Osafo Marfo who was given so many chances to prove his might but failed and so got the sack, was the first to talk against JAK followed by Dan who is now on a sniper attack. You don’t hear much about him, the only time he opens his mouth is to shoot at JAK. I think somebody has advised the late Santo’s brother so he has applied the breaks now. I hope somebody does the same to Dan Kwaku Botwe in the name of unity and respect for the elderly in our party. At the moment what we need as a party who wants to resume power is unity and constructive strategies devoid of personal attacks to satisfy egocentric ambitions. Some argue that we should not wash our dirty linen in public, others say we need a thorough post mortem to ascertain the cause of our defeat. I strongly believe in the latter because the way forward is to understand why humility in 2000 changed to arrogance in 2008, why our decentralised campaign strategies that saw us won two elections changed to centralised campaign operated by few incompetent, arrogant and selfish people and why the most successful government has to loose election because of propaganda from NDC and disoriented and ill-planned campaign from the NPP campaign team. This is what we need to take the NPP back to power to continue the good work of JAK and not insults.
