NPP’s call for prayer and fasting hypocritical

For a party that vehemently opposed the call on Ghanaians to pray for the nation in the wake of its current challenges, only for its leadership to be making a similar call for fasting and prayer for their party in the midst of its current internal crisis, that is the height of hypocrisy.
The NPP dismissed outright the call made some time ago by President Mahama on Ghanaians to seek the face of God in prayer for the nation in its time of difficulty.
Let in a vociferous attack by their flagbearer, Mr William Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP dismissed the call by the President and claimed that Ghana’s current problems were borne out of incompetence on the part of the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
This was not the first time that Akufo-Addo had sought to ridicule others over a call for prayer. The late President John Evans Atta Mills was also attacked by the NPP flagbearer in the same vicious manner when it became known that the late President was constantly seeking the face of God through fervent prayers.
Akufo-Addo, in a blatant act of mocking God at the time told then President Mills that prayer was not a substitute for hard work, and that he should concentrate on working to solve Ghana’s problems than praying every morning before commencing work at the Castle.
Going by NPP’s own logic, it is hypocritical on their part, especially on the part of their flagbearer, who affirmed his women’s organiser’s call for a week-long fasting and prayer for their party in the wake of its presently aggravated internal crisis, which has resulted in the acid-bath-death of their Upper East regional chairman, the late Mr Adams Mahama.
One may ask how Akufo-Addo accesses his own performance as leader of the NPP, in whose tenure such level of lawlessness and chaos has hit the NPP resulting in the unprecedented record of his party people cruelly bathing their own regional chairman to death with acid.
One would have thought that having the guts to dismiss President Mahama’s call for prayer for the nation, and late President Mills’ devotion to prayer, Akufo-Addo would have shown the level of leadership and competence in solving all his party’s problems, which he claimed Presidents Mills and Mahama lacked that had brought about the country’s problems.
That leadership and competence has obviously eluded Akufo-Addo. He has no choice but to tread the two NDC government-led Presidents’ path of remembering that there is a God who rules in the affairs of men.
This has once again exposed Akufo-Addo’s dishonesty when it comes to the national discourse. His attempt to portray President Mahama as clueless has backfired and the good people of Ghana can only see him for who he is.
It is also significant to note that Otiko Djaba’s call was not based on the mere fact that there is a problem in her party, which the flagbearer has woefully failed in resolving. She made her position clear- demons have thrown a spiritual bomb in the opposition party which is why what is happening is happening.
Otiko Djaba said it is these demons that have possessed NPP members who are engaging in all manner of wicked acts including the setting of the unprecedented record of a grievous crime as bathing their regional chairman to death.
This, Akufo-Addo totally agrees with and endorses Otiko Djaba’s call so that the demons tormenting his party could be exorcised.
It is obvious that Akufo-Addo lacks the capability of managing the affairs of his political party but claims to have it all for the leadership of this country.
And if demons are to be exorcised in the NPP with a week-long prayer in order for Akufo-Addo to be able to show leadership in that party, then one wonders what would happen on the national stage if he is made president.
God help our dear motherland!
