One of the notable NPP youngsters, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, who continuously misled the twice defeated NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo into believing that the 2012 presidential election was all wrapped up for him, is back in the news again after taken a humiliating cover in the bushes around his backyard.
Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, a Deputy Director of Communications for the NPP and also the Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the twice unsuccessful vice presidential candidate of the NPP, emerged from his hideout following the shocking defeat of the NPP in last year’s election not to say anything salient, but simply to blow hot air.
Following the 2012 presidential electoral defeat of Akufo-Addo by the recently inaugurated President John Mahama, the former out of shame and pusillanimous refused to concede defeat and eventually headed for court to contest the results. As a result, the NPP leadership and supporters have referred President Mahama as an illegal President waiting to be removed by the Supreme Court.
It is this attitude by the NPP which was on full display during a live Metro TV’s – Good Morning Ghana program on Monday which dwelt on the legitimacy of President Mahama’s Office. Almost everybody who watched the program heard Buabeng Asamoah repeatedly saying that President Mahama is an illegal president.
It was in this vein that Kobby Acheampong, former Deputy Minister for the Interior asked Buabeng Asamoah whether he or the NPP will respect any action/s taken by President Mahama whom they refer as an illegal president due to their challenge of the presidential election results in court.
Kobby Acheampong then went on to ask that, “Today, if we impose a curfew on Bawku, can the NPP leaders there say because they do not recognize John Mahama as President, they will not respect his actions?”
But instead of Buabeng Asamoah thanking Kobby Acheampong for schooling him and making him look like a SHS bound student, he immediately went to his office and issued a bogus statement claiming that President Mahama is threatening the NPP. How sad!
The NPP supporters who are currently looking so deflated and downhearted are just reading through any lines to make political capital out of it. Buabeng Asamoah may have been looking for a way to bounce back to political life but the way he did it bounced him back to the bush.
I will even go further in asking Buabeng Asamoah if President Mahama issues a decree declaring a Public Holiday next week Wednesday, will the NPP people go to work because they do not recognize his authority as president of Ghana?
Kobby Acheampong will be better off by not wasting his precious time in trying to explain what he said and what he may not have said during the program on TV. We are all witnesses to what happened during the program, therefore, Buabeng Asamoah will do himself a lot of good if he re-energizes his effort in rebuilding the NPP that he and others have helped in deflating.
Just blowing hot air through the issuance of a press statement to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians will not cut it for Buabeng Asamoah. He, therefore, has to be smart and come again.
