Men of integrity have always reached political heights by way of selfless public service, unflinching moral aptitude and merit. These virtues unquestionably endow on these men the moral capital and needed credibility to denounce all social, economic and political ills that confronts us today. This moral altitude is a precedent that needs to be attained by all who aspire for public office. Conversely, it invokes dishonesty, lack of credibility and to some extent mockery if dishonorable men try to place themselves on these high moral grounds by pretending to be morally upright.
I had known Atta Akyea long before contesting the Abuakwa South parliamentary seat for NDC. As a mate of his junior brother (Koo Kunton), I had a lot of admiration for him based on what I perceived to be his moral and academic prowess. Today, I cannot render him these same accolades and I sincerely believe he (Atta Akyea) does not have any moral authority to brand his NPP colleagues as thieves. I say this not because his claims are untrue. I make these pronouncements because he is no different from any of the NPP thieves he is lambasting. Asihene (Formal MCE East Akyem Municipality), Gloria, Kwame Lawyer and a host of others who contested in the NPP primaries to elect its Parliamentary candidate for the Abuakwa South Constituency will attest to this if they would be true to their hearts and the lord God.
Ethical and moral decency came under ruthless assault when Atta Akyea lectured “Money matters to a lot of our people more than the course for which we are fighting. And even at the corridors of power and at the constituency levels, the party has an array of thievery people,” Here is a guy who joined the NPP primaries at Abuakwa South Constituency barely three months to the primaries. The other contestants had spent months and in the case of Asihene, years to market himself to NPP supporters within the constituency. On the eve of the primaries, Atta Akyea practically stole the primaries through a midnight operation to buy delegates with huge sums of money, fridges, TV sets to mention a few. Could there be a more ironically laughable instance for Atta Akyea to accuse his fellow cohorts as thieves?
I would like Atta Akyea and his like to realize that it serve no one any good to tag political opponents as enemies. He places himself miles beneath the abyss of wisdom if he consistently refers to political opponents as enemies. For all the terror that he and his team consisting of Owuraku Amofa, Fiifi Ofori Atta and co unleashed on the executives and sympathizers of the NDC in Abuakwa South Constituency during the elections, we will never refer to them as enemies. As our commitment to peace and unity, we will even extend a hand to any unclenched fist that looks and smells clean. To the NDC, the common enemy is corruption, thievery, cronyism, poverty and all the vices that threaten our democracy. Ghana is therefore blessed to have elected a leader in the person of Prof. Mills who has clearly displayed a renewed focus to squash Ghana’s common enemy.
Getting soaked in eternal despair and desperation will not reverse the defeat Ghanaians handed his boss. It will be best for Atta Akyea to detox himself of despair and desperation by refraining from pointing his index finger at others of his caliber because whenever he does, his thumb sticks right back at him.
