Re: The Battle Is The Lord’s

…Is Ghana At War?

…Or Akufo-Addo Wants To Declare War?

There was a time in the history of the Israelites when they were at war with the Philistines. This happened during the time of the famous champion of the Philistine army called Goliath. The bible puts his height at six cubits and a span, with the iron point of even his spear weighing six hundred shekels.

This was indeed a time of great distress for the Israelites because Goliath will emerge everyday and taunt them by asking them to choose a man to fight him. The bible further says that on hearing Goliath’s words, Saul who was king at the time and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified. I want my readers to note that when war breaks out it breaks the heart of everybody especially women and children who tend to suffer the most.

But with shame and shivering starring the Israelites in the face, a common shepherd boy who goes by the name David emerged to save the situation. David came forward and demonstrated to King Saul how he could take care of Goliath. When the battle lines were drawn and Goliath saw David, the bible says he was totalling pissed off when he saw him. This led Goliath to express his disgust to the Israelites.

But David who was so confident of victory uttered the following words, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Ladies and gentlemen the catch sentence is, “The Battle Is The Lord’s.” Beloved, Ghana is not at war. In fact, we are not even fighting amongst ourselves. We are a peace loving country preparing to go to the polls in less than 10 days to elect our leaders for the next four years. But somebody who goes by the name Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has already drawn the battle lines, to the extent of turning this election into a war context.

Otherwise, where from this catch phrase, “The Battle Is The Lord’s”, which is boldly inscribed on all NPP branded vehicles roaming the streets of Ghana? Who are the NPP people going to fight? And why this catch phrase which had been quoted out of context from the bible by Nana Akufo-Addo? What is this war-monger trying to tell Ghanaians?

I am beginning to wonder if this catch phrase has any bearing with his, “All Die Be Die” declaration or the NPP must win the elections at all cost mantra. I am also wondering why Christians among the NPP are all quiet and allowing this blatant stupidity on the part of the NPP to fly in the face of peace loving Ghana.

The God that we worship is no fool. He knows the heart and mind of every single individual at every given time and moment. Therefore, we cannot mock God and get away with it. God knows those who want to plunge our beloved country into war if they do not win or get their heart’s desire. God also know those who genuinely want to win power in order to serve their people.

This country will never burn to satisfy the parochial interest of some few people. We will not go to war. We will not fight each other. We are a peace-loving people. We will therefore, go to the polls peacefully and come out triumphantly.

Those who are working hard to deny us of our God given peace will be put to shame. God watches over us, and as surely as the darkness follows daylight we will not battle each other to make a war-monger the next king. The next King will emerge through peaceful means and through God’s own means. Shalom!
