The World Would be a Better Place without Christianity

(Opening Statement Transcript from Debate)

Thank you for having me. I must say it’s a great honor to be here this evening.

To begin I would like to make a major correction to a point the moderator made during his introduction.

In his introduction, the moderator said that I had come here this evening to debate against the motion: The World Would Be A Better Place Without Christianity.

Actually, that’s not my goal today.

Instead I would argue for the motion. In other words, in the heavily edited words of Shakespeare or Mark Anthony, I have come here this day to bury Christianity, not to praise it, for the evils that Christianity do constantly cries out against it—and they must be aired like dirty laundry.

To begin, I would like to say that I agree with my opponents in this debate, or rather my allies, that Christianity is bad—really, really bad. And like the mosquito in the nudist camp, I really don’t know where to begin sucking. But since I must begin from somewhere, what better place to begin than in the very so-called “Holy Book” that birthed it?

Some time ago, I happened to stumble upon a Bible, and not really knowing what got into my head, I opened it and stumbled upon a book called Luke and began reading it. The first thing I noticed was this guy called Jesus telling folks to “love their neighbors.” Scoffing, I said, “is this guy called Jesus for real?”

First of all, I think it was very easy for him to say what he said when, if we are to believe the stories about him, he did not have any real neighbors since he was in many ways a nomad.

Secondly, I’m sure Jesus wouldn’t have said what he said if he had my neighbor as his neighbor. I mean my neighbor is very crazy—and I’m sure yours is too in some shape or form. Mine plays loud hard rock music late into the night, and in addition to that, I constantly hear moaning sounds of women coming out of his bedroom. I don’t know whether the sounds I hear are those of pain or pleasure. I think it’s both, but I’ll let you guys be the jury on that. Anyhow, the fact is I hate my neighbor. I really do! And I resent anyone who tells me to love my neighbor.

Angry, but wanting to see what other so-called nuggets the Bible was famed for, I flipped to another portion of the Bible and stumbled upon a book called Matthew. And there he was again—that same Jesus—telling his followers and me this time around to learn to be givers. It was at this point that I thought He was a mad man, closed the Bible and flung it across the room. I mean does Jesus know what economy we live in? Does he know how much sacrifice and sweat it took for me to make the little money I make today? And then what: I should go all sentimental and give it out to strangers? What would be in that for me? It doesn’t make sense. Thanks, but no thanks!

So it’s true: the world would certainly be a better place without Christianity if the above are but snapshots of what we have to adhere to if we were all to go the perverse way of Christianity.

Now, let’s move on now to look at some facts or statistics on the ground. It’s a known fact that among the major first responders to any major disaster around the world are Christians. They often go there to help meet the needs of victims by giving them food, water, medical supplies and treatments or build them shelters and sometimes schools. Think about it: aren’t Christians insane? I mean why do they want to help strangers? Christians don’t know these victims so why give them their time, money and efforts when they could be home sipping lattes, browsing the web and following the latest gossips on Kim Kardashian or other celebrities who are famous for accomplishing nothing? I mean wouldn’t that be better than leaving the comforts of their homes to help strangers in war zones or earthquake-impacted zones rebuild their lives and empathize with them?

Again, it is upon this point that I agree that the world would certainly be a better place without Christianity.

That being said, let’s shift our focus now to our third point. Let’s face it: Christianity is the most prejudicial, intolerant, narrow-minded or close-minded religion or institution ever invented by humanity. I mean, the other day I was walking on my university campus and came across a Christian guy trying to convince a homosexual that he should give up his homosexual lifestyle because it was wrong.

Being the moral titan that I am, I walked up to the pair, and told the Christian guy that he should not be doing such a thing. I mean, why did he want to convince the guy that the vagina was more pleasurable than the anus? In other words, if the homosexual guy wants to stick it in an anus or a dog, cat, horse, porcupine, goat, fish, dead body, or his son or daughter, let him. It was his business. Likewise if the lesbian felt that a dildo or strap on (or whatever false penises they use these days) was more valuable than a real penis, let her. Both gays and lesbians were within their rights and freedom to do whatever they pleased with their bodies and the Christian guy was wrong to tell them that their lifestyle was deplorable and wrong. I mean who was he? I know, it doesn’t make sense.

The sad thing is later that day when I was on my way home I came across another Christian guy telling a group of young beautiful girls that abortion was wrong. Nonsense! That was the most hateful and intolerant statement I had ever heard! I mean, why in the world did that Christian guy care so about some helpless infant in someone else’s stomach since according to the Gospel of Darwin (praise be upon his holy name and wonderful intellect) we are all nothing but animals engaged in a struggle for survival? Shouldn’t mothers have the right to murder their children anytime they want? Shouldn’t they be free to do that without some close-minded and bigoted Christian coming by to tell them it’s wrong? Why do Christians care for infants they’ve never met anyways? Why should they care for infants who would grow up and become smart-alecks like Einstein, Mendel, Tesla, Newton…or Hitler? Christians should leave us all alone and go do something better like going to the gym to exercise because they are corrupting the good morals of our world!

Without a doubt: the world would certainly be a better place without Christianity!

The next point I would like us to shift our focus to is the fact that Christianity is embedded with extremism and violence. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the Old Testament, which is the most hateful book ever written? I mean how could God order the Israelites to summarily execute the Canaanites and the other people of the “Good Land” when clearly they were in favor of a good thing such as population control by killing their children just like we kill them in the womb in our days through abortion? How about Sodom and Gomorrah? I certainly think it is inhumane of God to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for being so cruel to strangers and for loving anuses more than vaginas!

It should be very obvious that extremism and violence are unique to Christianity—not to all ideologies or worldviews. The extremism and violence you find in atheist communist societies like the ones ran by Stalin of Russia, Mao of China and Pol Put of Indo-China aren’t real. They’re manufactured propaganda by Christians and so do not count. Therefore, it is true: the world would certainly be better off without Christianity.

Moving on to our next point, if I told you that Christians were in fact the most irrational people in the world, you wouldn’t believe me. But that is the truth! Take, for example, the matter of our origin. They claim that this universe and life must have been created by a super-intellect because it bears evidence of design. But what do such simpletons whose minds are chained to a hateful book written by uneducated fools know? Don’t they know that the claim that the universe exploded into being billions of years ago even though none of us were there to observe it is the most logical and plausible?

I mean think about it: Christian folks would rather disagree with our experts or people who have devoted significant parts of their lives into unraveling the mysteries of the universe when they state categorically and with evidence that in the beginning there was nothing, that that nothing exploded and then everything came into being. That’s certainly the most logical and scientific account of our origin and anybody who doesn’t believe it is irrational. And Christians often prove this point when they ask the following questions: how many explosions have you heard of that produced order instead of chaos? How many explosions have ever occurred from nothing? Where is the reason of Christian folks? Where is their reason? It’s a fact: in the beginning there was nothing, nothing exploded and here we all are. What’s more logical than that?

And don’t even get me started with the whole evolution stuff. Darwin was one of the most brilliant men that ever lived. He or no evolutionist has ever conducted an experiment in the lab proving that one organism can in fact become a completely different organism but Darwin knew for certain that that’s how all the great diversities we observe in living organisms originated. How that’s possible, none of us should care because any explanation is better than a Christian explanation because, as you and I already know, Christian folks are the most irrational folks there are!

So, to conclude, would the world be better off without Christianity? As you already know, I emphatically say yes the world would be better off without Christianity because:

1. Christianity challenges us to be better and corrupts the good morals of our world, and I resent that. And you should too.
2. It’s the only prejudicial, intolerant, irrational, close-minded and divisive religion or institution in the world—and its adherents love giving help and charity to strangers so much that it sickens me and should sicken you too.
