The cry for change of leadership increasing Akufo-Addo’s chance

Throughout the campaign tour embarked upon by the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, one underlining issue that stand out clearly is the increasing cries by majority of Ghanaians for a new leadership.

The suffering masses of Ghana are simply crying for a more competent leadership that will put their interest first; a leadership that will jealously guard the resources of the state, and use them to implement policies and programmes that will inure to the benefit of all Ghanaians and not few cronies and family members.

Having endured eight years of excruciating hardship under the corrupt and incompetent National Democratic Congress government, led by the clueless President John Dramani Mahama, Ghanaians believe the time for a change cannot be delayed beyond the end of this year.

They don’t have any doubt to believe that trusting the affairs of the state into the hands of a confused government for another four years will be a complete cataclysm for the nation.

The NPP flagbearer‘s “Arise for Change” tour, which has taken him to the Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo, Eastern, Western, Central and Volta regions, has indeed brought to the fore the realities on the ground: the impatience of Ghanaians for a change in government.

Indications on the ground point out the fact clearly that the so-called transformation agenda being touted by President Mahama and his functionaries has been a negative experience for majority of the people.

The chiefs and people of the various communities visited by the NPP standard bearer have not hidden the fact the President Mahama-led administration has done little to improve upon their lives. In fact, they strongly make the point that their socio-economic circumstances have rather been made worse by the Mahama government.

Issues of unemployment, high cost of living, high electricity tariffs, in the midst of power crisis, among others, are giving Ghanaians sleepless nights.

That is why the cries from Ghanaians for Nana Akufo Addo to come and redeem the nation from the current harsh economic conditions are increasing in tempo with every passing day in the run-up to the this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

As former President Kufuor stated some time past, and was re-echoed by the late President John Evans Atta Mills, let us look at our circumstances and vote accordingly when we go to the polls this year.

Obviously, in President Mahama’s desperate attempt to win another term in office, he and his appointees will go every length, including using our resource for vote buying, as it happened in the 2012 elections.

We at the Daily Statesman once again want to caution Ghanaians against attempt any temptation of allowing President Mahama and his functionaries another term to continue the mismanagement of the affairs of the country. The ramification of any such decision will be dire not only for the current generation but the unborn. The cry for change is increasing in tempo. Let’s all not only join the calls for change, but also work harder to make it a reality for the sake of the future of our country.
