Columnist: Amankwah, Nana Kofi
How in the world does Addo Kufuor think about his own ethnic groups and the people whom he serves in his constituency? He now has the audacity to go Kumasi and launch his presidential candidacy. For almost sixteen years as a parliamentarian member in Manhyia?s constituency, what improvements or economic achievements have Addo Kufuor made?
I represent those who do not have a voice in our Manhyia constituency. With all my conviction I challenge Addo Kufuor, to highlight his achievement within his constituency on social issues and economic development in his constituency since he became our legislator.
Just five hundred meters away from the Airport Junction to Boakrum estates, there is no access to drinking water, no community center for our youth, no public library; most of the roads in our community are gravel roads. There has been no economic improvement under his citizenry. His constituency is the main center of Kumasi. In fact, the violent behavior and criminal activities that have been occurring recently in Kumasi is under his constituency. He has had no answer to resolving this dilemma. Since Addo Kufuor went to parliament, he should show us a bill, he has sponsored in parliament pertaining to his constituency.
Since his senior brother uses his Akan fame to canvass and win votes from the Akans and people of Kumasi, what has he done economically to improve his political base?
Even with the help from his brother John Agyekum Kufuor he has failed to bring any purposeful developments to his constituency. These Kufuors can fool us once, but not twice. We will not allow this nonsense to continue.
The people of Ashanti region will vote for their interest only, not for name recognitions or party affiliations. These Kufuor names have become an affront to many of us from the Ashanti region. Even if I don?t have a hope in other ethnic groups in Ghana, I can I assure you all that I trust the Ashanti?s and the Akans that they have done this before, and they will do it again. It was their efforts that they used to vote against Gen. I K Acheampong?s Union Government.
Addo Kufuor will be the next. Due to the failure of his senior brothers empty promises of creating jobs and improving our economy ? efficiency this will not happen that they will vote for his brother again. Almost 15 months ago John Agyekum Kufuor Promise the people who lives under his younger brother constituency a work at the Kumasi Air port renovations projects but since then it has not arise. This is how we view these self-interest political influents.
