Following the characteristic reluctance, or pussyfooting, of the National Democratic Congress-appointed Chairwoman of the so-called independent Electoral Commission (EC) to expunge the names of all registered voters who registered to vote in the 2012 general election with their National Health Insurance (NHIS) Cards, the New Patriotic Party’s Election 2016 Campaign Chairman, Mr. Peter Mac Manu was reported to have declared somewhere in the Western Region that the NPP intended to call out its own version of the results of the November 7 general election (See “Mac Manu Leading NPP’s Civil War Committee – Anyidoho” Classfmonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 6/7/16).
One does not need even a cheap bachelor’s degree in law or philosophy from any one of the privately owned mushroom universities in the country to promptly and aptly conclude that Mr. Mac Manu was only responding to the NDC-sponsored scofflaws in the only language they understand best – the language of force and impunity. Indeed, if any group of ideological partisans wanted to plunge Ghana into a civil war, that civil war ought to have organically occurred the moment the “Trokosi Nationalist Revolutionaries” (TNR) of the erstwhile Rawlings-led Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) abducted and summarily executed, Mafia-style, the three Akan-descended Accra High Court judges from the sanctum of their homes and families in the thick of darkness.
Back then, the comprehensive Azu-crabbe Commission’s SIB Report clearly noted that all three slain justices, namely, Agyepong, Koranteng-Addow and Sarkodie were abducted and savagely executed because they had failed to communicate in the Ewe language of their abductors and executioners, led by Lance-Corporal Amedeka. To be certain, it was this abject failure of the Akan leaders in the country at the time, including the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku-Ware, II, to promptly intervene and protectively defend the vulnerable Akan-Ghanaian majority that has made people like yours truly lose any interest in returning home and throwing our weight, or whatever be left of the same, behind the development of our motherland.
Indeed, if anybody is looking towards plunging the country into a civil war, it is actually shameless and unconscionable demagogues like Mr. Koku Anyidoho and the rest of the NDC hoodlum pack at the party’s Kokomlemle headquarters, and not the mild-mannered and rhetorically poised and deliberate Mr. Mac Manu. We must also highlight the fact that it is the NDC stalwarts who have been lauding the criminals behind the acid-dousing assassination of Mr. Adams Mahama, including, yes, President John Dramani Mahama, who has even had occasion to make a national campaign joke out of the condign indefinite suspension of circumstantial collaborators like Mr. Paul Afoko, whose younger brother, Gregory Afoko, has been charged as prime suspect behind the brutal slaying of Mr. Mahama, the former Upper-East’s Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. The NDC operatives have even made heroes out of Mr. Afoko and such associates as Messrs. Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe.
Where Chairman Afoko’s clearly evident complicity comes in has to do with his failed public attempt to cop an alibi for his brother’s role in the murder of Mr. Mahama. Indeed, at every turn, the murder of NPP party stalwarts and staunch supporters and operatives, such as Mr. Saddiq Abubakar, has triggered the humor and laughter tracks of the NDC operatives. And so the question of which of the two major political parties in the country is jam-packed with the children and grandchildren of Dracula has never been in doubt. After all, was not NDC founding-father Chairman Jerry John Rawlings widely reported to have signed the maiden copy of his party’s Constitution with his own blood?
Then also, the public castigation of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the three-time Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, as “an elitist” by the EC Chair because Dr. Bawumia has dared to demand a clean National Voters’ Register, clearly indicates that Mrs. Osei is determined not to conduct and/or supervise a clean and credible election in November. As it stands, the only alternative is to either have the EC Chairwoman removed from her present post and returned to her chairwomanship of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), or force her to comply with the judicial order of the apex court.
By now, it ought to be clear to all level-headed and well-meaning Ghanaians that it is the key operatives of the misruling National Democratic Congress who have been recklessly spoiling for war, with the overt and brazen complicity of both the Chief of the Defense Staff, Gen. Oje, and the Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, Mr. John Kudalor. Indeed, it may be getting too late for the Mahama Posse and their unhealthily politicized law-enforcement and national-security administrators to wake up, sit up and start reasoning like statesmen instead of impudent schoolyard bullies. Needless to say, the Road to Kigali may not be as far off as the NDC Abongo Boys suppose. And the sooner they act responsibly for the peace and stability of the country, the better it would be for each and every Ghanaian citizen, both at home and abroad.
