Despite government directive to all public institutions including Universities to pay two months Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) in August and three months in December 2011, the authority of the University of Education, Winneba says they are not ready to pay the arrears.
According to the authority, the University has no money to effect the payment as directed by the government but the situation according the aggrieved workers is not true and described the decision by the University authority as cheating and mere politics interest.
A cross section of workers (both Junior Staff and senior staff) members of the University of Education, Winneba who revealed the decision by the authority said, they are not happy about the way the University authority is treating them, according the aggrieved workers, they have been cheated for far too long and calling on the Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, the regional minister, Fare wages and salary commission and Ministry of Employment and social welfare t to intervene.
They also disclosed that, the road map for paying the Single Spine salary structure is different from other Public Universities, Cited that, Transport Section of UEW payment plan is far below compare to Other Public University whiles junior staffs are most affected workers at the University of Education.
To them they believe the policy should be universal not to benefit other universities, they also blamed lack of proper leadership for Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU).
The Implementation of the SSSS has taken various demissions to ensure its effeteness but workers at the University of Education have classified the payment system as domed.
University of Education, though developing Teacher Education tasked by the Government of Ghana to train professional teachers, it said to have given corruption the chance in recent times
