The revelation by Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah regarding a plot to assassinate the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has, in fact, been known for quite a considerable while now. We have even had a very vocal party stalwart publicly broach the same and even name names that, predictably, caused quite a bit of hiccupping within, as well as without, the party. Still, it is very important for the secular and/or earthly protectors of Nana Akufo-Addo to tighten whatever cordon of security they may have formed around the 2016 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (See “Some People Are Plotting to Kill Nana Addo – Owusu-Bempah” Adomonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 1/3/16).
I have even had a couple of relatives in the recent past call to seek advice on how best to keep an eye on some suspicious card-carrying characters among the top hierarchy membership of Ghana’s largest and most progressive political party, without such suspicious characters being in the know about the fact that they are being studiously watched; and also at the same time, making these reprobate characters fully aware that any dastardly attempts to muddy the proverbial waters of a winsome destiny for both the New Patriotic Party and the nation at large would be fiercely resisted.
We must also take this prime moment and opportunity to, once again, congratulate Pastor Owusu-Bempah for constantly keeping Nana Akufo-Addo and some of the country’s most progressive leaders, across the political divide, in his prayers. I may not be a pathological stickler for prophecies, but neither am I that naïve to suppose that the existential sum or totality of what we humans believe and recognize as earthlings are purely materialist or positivistic, in classical philosophical terms. Indeed, in my own private lifetime, I have both witnessed and experienced more than enough to fully convince me of the palpable reality of the evil machinations of humanity, both in the physical and metaphysical realms of human experience, to take the Biblical concept of this world’s being effectively ruled by “principalities and powers” well beyond the scope and understanding of the “normal” and “ordinary” human being for granted.
We must also point out that the mention by the founding-leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry International that those looking to use foul means to achieving their vendetta against Nana Akufo-Addo, for whatever acts of commission and/or omission they may deem the former Justice Minister to be guilty of, may not necessarily be located among people in close physical proximity to the man. They may very well be in close associative collaboration with some of the most ardent and inveterate political opponents and rabid foes of Nana Akufo-Addo, and it ought not to be forgotten, the latter’s three-time running-mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom some of these decidedly implacable internal detractors and their cross-partisan collaborators perceive to be the bane of their chances for a shot at the highest office of the land.
We have publicly and luridly witnessed the true colors of some of these human pythons and rattlesnakes and mambas and cobras who go by such patently inglorious sobriquets as McHypocrite, McNasty and McMole in recent weeks and months. And it goes without saying – my profuse apologies to the immortalized Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – that since these enemies of progress, societal cohesion and social justice are relentless in their quest for carnage and mayhem and total destruction, those of us who have the best interests of the nation at heart ought not relent in our uphill battle to making Ghana enviably and proudly prosperous for all who have made our beloved country their permanent abode, irrespective of gender, creed, ethnicity, race and national origin. Long live Ghana!
