The Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGA) will commence it’s first ever Regional Tour golf competition in the Western Region which tees off from Tuesday, April, 16 to Wednesday, April 19, 2019.
According to PGA president, Tony Mintah, PGA, through the tour wants to generate the interest of Professional Golf in the Country.
The four day event would see players take part in four different golf courses. Damang golf course will host the opening day. Nsuta will host second day course as Bogoso hosts the third day’s golf course. Tarkwa will host the forth course which is the final day.
Prizes will be given to deserving winners after the four day event which is expected to be keenly contested.
A total of about fifty (50) golfers are expected to take part in the event, says the tournament director, Nana Akwasi Prempeh.
After the tour, PGA will then turn attention to the 62nd ASANTEHENE invitational Championship which will take place between 8th and 12 May 2019 at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.
Mr Mintah told Power Sports the next Region after Western would be Greater Accra tour where golf course such as Achimota, Celebrity and Tema Country Golf Clubs will be hosting the event.
The 3rd Regional Tour will be the Ashanti tour where golf courses such as the Royal Golf Club and Obuasi Golf Clubs would be expected to take up the mantle to deliver a fantastic competition which promises to the admiration of all.
This means PGA members will be enjoying not less than seven competitions within a calendar year and still counting for more.
Mr Tony Mintah who expects a successful tour also extended his appreciation to Gold Fields Ghana Limited for their immense support to the PGA, and appealed to other corporate institutions to emulate the shining example of Gold Fields to help develop professional golf which is now an olympic sports in the country.
