A cholera outbreak has claimed 16 lives and infected 150 others in parts of Greater Accra, Eastern, and Central regions.

Initially reported in Ada East and West, it has spread to districts like Accra Metro, Kpone Katamanso, and Ashaiman.

Public Health Director Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe noted a decline in severe cases but stressed preventive measures like handwashing and addressing open defecation.

Free treatment is available nationwide, with authorities aiming for zero deaths.

The outbreak highlights gaps in hygiene infrastructure, with cholera caused by consuming contaminated food or water.

Ghana’s worst outbreak was in 2017, with over 24,000 cases.
