Adisadel students applaud MTN for giving them the opportunity to save lives

Students of Adisadel College were full of smiles and joy as they went through their sections, one after the other to donate blood in their school to complement the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital blood bank.

The blood donation exercise was organised by the leading telecommunication giant in Ghana, MTN and the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

The students in an interview with Kweku Bee Abrante thanked MTN Ghana for giving them a lifetime opportunity to save the lives of others especially on Valentine's day, 14 February.

According to the students, Cape Coast to Winneba highway is one of the highly used roads in Ghana, hence the huge number of accidents recorded on the road. It is therefore worth it if they donate blood to be stored at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital to treat such emergencies.

One of the students who spoke on condition of anonymity recounted how his classmate involved in an accident on the Cape Coast Winneba road nearly lost his life due to unavailability of his blood type at the time.

According to the student, it was traumatizing seeing his mate go through so much pain and trauma.

Human Resources Manager for MTN Western and Central Regions, Regina Akeefi, said, MTN started the Valentine’s Day blood donation exercise dubbed “Save a life project” in 2011 with the Central Region joining four years ago as part of their social corporate responsibility trip.

She said the exercise is to show love to customers of MTN on Valentine's day.

She urged the public to support MTN donate blood wherever such exercise is held to avoid the continuous loss of blood due to the unavailability of blood.

About 350 blood donors were expected to donate blood to complement the bloodstock in the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
