The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has proposed canceling certificate and diploma nursing programs, advocating for degree-level education to improve the nursing workforce's quality.
Prof. Ernest Yorke highlighted the need for a skilled nursing population, noting the current dominance of auxiliary nurses.
He emphasized upgrading existing nurses' qualifications and cited Nigeria's example of degree-prepared nurses.
This shift aims to enhance maternal health indicators and overall healthcare standards in Ghana.
