Pharm Dr. Samuel Kow Donkoh, head of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, has revealed that no new pharmacists have been hired by the Ghana Health Service since 2020, worsening the job crisis and brain drain in the sector.
He urged the government to employ 400-500 pharmacists annually and suggested that over-the-counter medicine sellers upgrade to full pharmacies to create jobs.
Concerns about the healthcare system were echoed by other professionals, highlighting the urgent need for increased job opportunities and better retention strategies to address the growing gaps in the sector.
