Ghana has recorded its third Mpox case, confirmed in the Greater Accra Region last week, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Health authorities are monitoring contacts, with no additional cases detected so far.

Mpox, declared a public health emergency in Africa by the WHO, spreads through close physical contact, contaminated items, and, less commonly, sexual transmission.

Dr. Dennis Laryea of the GHS urges the public to avoid contact with individuals showing rashes and to report symptoms promptly.

Ghana’s first two cases were reported in August in the Western Region.

Surveillance systems remain on alert for Mpox and other diseases like measles and cholera.

Across Africa, over 17,000 Mpox cases have been confirmed, primarily in the DRC.
