The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has announced the commencement of a six-month free dialysis support programme for renal patients from June to December 2024..
This initiative follows JoyNews' Dialysis Crisis Series and a national dialogue on the issue.
Beneficiaries are divided into vulnerable groups (under 18 and over 60) who will receive eight free sessions monthly, costing GH₵ 2.3 million. Patients aged 18 to 59 will get two sessions per month at selected hospitals, costing GH₵ 1.01 million by year-end.
orle Bu Teaching Hospital patients will receive subsidies for two sessions monthly. The total program cost is GH₵ 4.4 million, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing renal disease.
