2018-02-24Prof. Gyampo adopts Emergency and Accident Ward of Saltpond Municipal Hospital

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a native of Saltpond in the Central Region and a political scientist at University of Ghana, Legon has adopted the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Saltpond Municipal Hospital.
Prof Gyampo who is also director of the Centre for European Studies said the decision was his way of giving back to his community.

Read full articlehis childhood and formative years in Saltpond, Prof Gyampo noted how he was always rushed to the emergency ward for medical attention.
Prof Gyampo stressed the need to ensure the effective running of the ward and indicated his desire to assist in an expansion that will enable the facility to cater for more patients.
By his adoption, Prof. Gyampo takes over the responsibility of ensuring the smooth operation of the ward at all times, including making available some necessary logistics.
In his remarks after a brief ceremony to mark his adoption of the ward, Prof Gyampo urged other philanthropists to do same.
"If you get the opportunity to serve your nation and the world, make an impact. But do not forget to also impact the lives of people in your own hometown and land of your birth. You are a miserable failure if you do. Contributing to the national development and neglecting one's own local community doesn't make you fully patriotic. We must be relevant to our family, the land of our birth, our nation, and the world".
He praised some natives of Saltpond who have demonstrated commitment to Saltpond's development and called on others overseas to take a cue from the pioneering role of natives like the late Sadick Arthur, Prof P.V. V. Ansah, Prof. Marian Awurama Addy, and Prof Francis.
The medical superintendent of the Saltpond Municipal Hospital, Dr. Derek Akyampong Bonsu, expressed appreciation to Prof Gyampo for his gesture and act of magnanimity.
He noted that even though the hospital has witnessed some improvements in its infrastructure, several units and wards, particularly the accident and emergency section lacks support and the provision of basic infrastructure to make it work and offer effective health delivery to patients.
He further expressed gratitude for the computers donated to aid the hospital's e-health delivery system.
The short ceremony was graced by some chiefs of the community, members of the Saltpond Forum and friends of Prof Gyampo
