More than 300 enrolled nurses from the 2020 cohort were left stranded at the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate after only 30 of them were recruited.
Despite passing licensure exams and obtaining their Professional Identification Numbers (PINs) four years ago, many remain jobless.
The nurses had anticipated relief after the Ghana Health Service (GHS) reactivated its recruitment portal. However, they were informed that the region’s quota could only accommodate 30 nurses, leaving the rest disappointed.
A senior staff member at the Directorate explained that no additional recruitments could be made without further orders from the GHS.
The situation highlights growing frustration among unposted nurses, who are calling for a review of the quota system to accommodate more health workers nationwide.
