Rhiannon Afua "Rhian" Benson is a Ghanaian-British soul and jazz singer and songwriter.
She was born in Accra, Ghana. Her mother, Welsh was a singer, and her father was a guitarist.
She was raised in Ghana, India, where her family moved following a diplomatic posting of her father, and her mother's native United Kingdom, where she eventually settled. She started playing the piano and guitar and writing her own songs at a very early age and then pursued a music career. She attended the London School of Economics and gained a degree in econometrics.
Rhian also studied Economics through Harvard's extension certificate program. She could not complete it due to her mother's illness and worked at an investment bank.
In the United Kingdom, she was discovered by the Los Angeles-based record label, DKG Music while performing in small London clubs. She released her album Gold Coast recorded in, Los Angeles in 2003.
She released her second album, Hands Clean, on 14 February 2011 with Denmark's production duo, Jonas Rendbo, and Daniel Fridellhelp.
