2024 Polls: Presidential debates enhance democracy – Etse Sikanku

Prof. Etse Sikanku of the University of Media, Arts, and Communications (UniMaC) supports holding a presidential debate before the December elections, asserting it strengthens Ghana’s democracy.

His endorsement follows NPP candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's criticism of John Dramani Mahama for declining a debate.

The Institute of Economic Affairs also advocates for debates, emphasizing their role in helping voters make informed choices.

Despite some public opposition, Sikanku, on Channel One TV’s Citiuation Room, emphasized that debates provide valuable political information, particularly for the youth, and enhance democratic engagement and understanding among students.
