Former President John Dramani Mahama will be overwhelmingly endorsed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in their upcoming national delegates’ congress, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo, Edward Bawa has revealed.

The MP, who is one of the over 90 MPs in the Minority who openly endorsed Mr Mahama, said on ‘Ghana te sen’ on Radio XYZ 93.1 that, the former president will not get less than ninety per cent votes of the delegates.

His comments follow a research conducted by policy Think Tank, Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) that indicates former President John Dramani Mahama is fast losing his control and influence in the party.

The research which sampled views of party branch executives across the country reveals that, within the party’s internal elections, many respondents indicated they voted against candidates who were associated with former President Mahama.

Executive Secretary of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson who spoke to host of ‘Ghana te sen, Kwame Minkah contended that, based on their findings, it was safe to conclude that John Mahama was losing his control in the party.

He was, however, quick to state that candidate Mahama is tipped to win the party’s Presidential race as many responded “yes” in that regard, adding that it wouldn’t be by a landslide margin as candidates Alban Bagbin, Spio Gabrah and the other candidates will share part of his votes.

However, Mr Bawa, a former appointee of the erstwhile Mahama administration, disagreed with the findings which he said was far from the reality.

“As a political watcher in Ghana’s politics, I can tell you without a fear of contradiction that H.E John Mahama will get nothing less 90%…I know what I’m saying. I don’t think all the other candidates together, will get up to 5%,” he added.

To him, the “overwhelming” support from the delegates for the former President in the Upper East Region alone tells that Mr Mahama will be endorsed en mass in the upcoming national congress.
