Akufo-Addo: I took political risks in fight against galamsey in 2020

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to fighting illegal mining (galamsey), stating that he has taken significant political risks, even putting his presidency on the line.

Speaking during his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Northeast Region on October 15, he emphasized his dedication to eradicating galamsey despite facing criticism since pledging action in 2017.

He linked the NPP's poor performance in mining areas during the 2020 elections to propaganda by NDC candidate John Mahama, who suggested reversing anti-galamsey policies.

Akufo-Addo also challenged Mahama to clarify his stance on galamsey enforcement.
