One of the flagbearer hopefuls of the National Democratic Congress, Alban S.K. Bagbin Monday filed his nomination to contest the party’s presidential primary scheduled for next year.
Mr. Bagbin who is the second deputy Speaker of Parliament was the first to present his nomination forms to the national executives of the NDC at the party’s headquarters.
“By submitting these forms, I’m formally offering myself to party delegates around the country and asking them to elect me to lead our great party as flagbearer and presidential candidate for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary election,” Mr. Bagbin told the executives.
He said it is his expectation that the NDC wins back power in 2020 from the New Patriotic Party, noting that will be possible if he is elected the flagbearer and the party ends the cycle of neglect that plagued those who have served party and country.
“Like you, I can’t wait for the NDC to get back to the power we gave away in 2016…For us to win election 2020, we must win election 2019 by-election Ask Bagbin in the primaries” he stated.
He underscored the need for the NDC to hold high the values and principles that made the party the beacon of hope and of choice, assuring that he would walk the path of humility, love, care, kindness, fairness and social justice as a leader.
Mr. Bagbin pledged to reinvigorate and revitalize the party, and to restore the power taken away from the rank and file by empowering the branch and constituency members of the party so that it can win the 2020 elections and “remain in power for a minimum of 16 years”.
“This is to ensure that our great party has time to fully implement its policies and programmes for the rapid development of the country,” he explained.
Partnership
He indicated that a Bagbin presidency will partner persons he termed as “true leaders of our nation” to bring about unprecedented growth
Mr. Bagbin said he does not subscribe to the idea that it is only politicians who can develop the nation, hence his decision to partner with traditional, religious and civil society leaders in Ghana to develop.
“This pledge is borne out of our unshakable belief that politicians alone ought not to be seen to be only those who can lead to develop Ghana. I will lead the party and the nation to accomplish unprecedented human growth by providing sincere and transformational leadership,” he stated.
The flagbearer hopeful indicated he will openly and forcefully promote the ideas and values of the NDC party and symbolise these ideas and values in everything he does.
“As a presidential candidate, I assure you that with your support and prayers and our message of grassroots, empowerment and commitment to ending the cycle of neglect that has plagued those who have served party and country, victory will be ours in 2020,” he stated.
Meanwhile, he has assured the party of a decorous, civil and mature campaign, adding the supreme interest of the party will be his utmost guide in whatever he and his campaign team do.
The primary is scheduled for January 26, 2019.
