Come rain or shine, I’ll support Mahama to win election 2020 – Bagbin declares

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has once again pledged his commitment to supporting Mr. John Dramani Mahama, through thick and thin, to win the 2020 general elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement released, Monday, publicly announcing the disbandment of his campaign team, Team Bagbin, Hon. Bagbin who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo said he together with his team, will remain in the corner of the former Ghanaian leader until success comes their way as far as the 2020 general elections are concerned.

“I have personally given my word to President John Dramani Mahama that come rain or shine, I and all my Team members without exception will henceforth, remain in his corner! We pledge to fight to not only return him to his rightful place in the Flagstaff House in 2020, but also and more importantly, to support him to the hilt in the rejigging of our Party Infrastructure in order to clearly differentiate it and to reposition it as a party which has responded and can once again respond to the hopes and aspirations of the ordinary people of this Great Nation of ours”, he noted.

Hon. Bagbin is one of the seven contestants who competed for the vacant flagbearer position of the umbrella family in the presidential primary held on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

He polled 2,313 votes, representing 1.02% to emerge third in the competition which saw an overwhelming endorsement of Mr. Mahama as the flagbearer and leader of the NDC.

Mr. Mahama polled 213,443 votes, representing 95.24% of the total valid votes cast.

The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Prof. Joshua Alabi also polled 3,399 votes, representing 1.51% of the total valid votes cast.

Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah on the other hand polled 1,467 votes, representing 0.65% while Goosie Tanoh garnered 2,038 votes, representing 0.90% votes.

Other contenders in the race, Alhaji Nurudeen Iddrissu and Sylvester Mensah polled 519 and 932 votes, representing 0.23% and 0.41% respectively.

Hon. Bagbin reflecting on the outcome of the processes leading to the polls said even though the contest had its own special human and logistical challenges, it brought up some incredibly good ideas that will inure to the benefit of the NDC.

He further noted that the contest afforded the rank and file of the party the rare opportunity to introspect and to redefine the soul of the Akatamansonians, stressing that the party’s time tested democratic credentials was not lost on many discerning observers.

It is based on what the party went through, according to the Nadowli/Kaleo lawmaker that he has committed himself and his entire team to disband all activities relating to his campaign secretariat to assist Mr. Mahama to win power back from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) which he said has delivered more on slogans and promises, having been in power for two years and two months.

“Needless to say, we have completely dismantled our campaign machinery in its entirety. We are committing all of our brainware and all of our hardware to the 2020 war chest of our Great Party. We can do no less!” he emphasized.
