The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Peter Boamah Otukonor has stated categorically that the relationship between the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Dr. James Kofi Annan is a forgone conclusion.

He observes that no amount of prayers and machinations will force him to rejoin the party he heavily supported with finances in the past, indicating that he has found real love in NDC and shall not return to the bitter past

To this end, he welcomed the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) defector, Dr. James Kofi Annan into the NDC saying “whether Akufo-Addo himself likes it or not, Kofi Annan is not turning back”.

According to the Deputy General Secretary, Kofi Annan’s defection to the NDC is historic in the Effutu constituency and would help the party to increase votes thereby snatching the seat from NPP’s Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin.

Mr. Otukonor at the acclamation of Kofi Annan as the NDC new Parliamentary candidate for the Effutu constituency following the resignation of Mr. Victor Yankson who was the elected parliamentary at the primaries last year promised a new beginning for the party in the area.

Per the NDC constitution, delegates of the party are supposed to elect a parliamentary candidate in such circumstances, hence all the branch executives were present to acclaim Kofi Annan as the new NDC parliamentary candidate.

Mr. Otokunor praised delegates for the overwhelming endorsement to Kofi Annan and promised on behalf of his boss, Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketia and the party to work tirelessly to help the new parliamentary candidate to win the battle.

On his part, the Central Regional Chairman of NDC, Mr. Ebenezer. K. T. Addo described the endorsement as historic which does not happen anywhere and strongly believed the constituency is poised for victory come 7th December 2020.

“The politics in Effutu constituency has been one sided for various reasons but it looks like the situation has changed and the change is for the benefit of the NDC” he observed.
