John Mahama, former President of Ghana and current NDC flagbearer, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the significant increase in Ghana's external debt since 2016.
He highlighted that the debt has surged from GH₵120 billion to GH₵577 billion, meaning each Ghanaian now owes GH₵19,000 compared to GH₵4,000 in 2016.
Mahama expressed concern over the impact of this debt on economic stability and the nation’s ability to fund social and development projects.
He also noted rising inflation and unemployment, which have exacerbated the hardships faced by ordinary Ghanaians.
