Election 2024: Mpraeso MP rejects Haruna Iddrisu’s call for Independent NPP MPs to resign

The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Opoku Ansah, has rejected calls from former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu for New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs running as independents to vacate their seats.

Iddrisu suggested invoking Article 97 (1)(g) of the Constitution, which could declare their seats vacant if they resign from their party.

However, Opoku Ansah argued that these MPs have not resigned and remain part of the NPP, making such action unconstitutional.

He emphasized the need for stability in Parliament as elections approach and criticized the previous decision to declare the Fomena seat vacant, stating it undermines representation.
