Ex-gratia hasn’t served its purpose, let’s scrap it – Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has reiterated his stance on abolishing ex-gratia payments to Article 71 officeholders, arguing they no longer serve their anti-corruption purpose.

Speaking at a forum marking the 30th anniversary of the Fourth Republic, Bagbin noted that ex-gratia was intended to ensure public servants' needs were met post-office to curb corruption.

However, he acknowledged this has failed in practice.

Bagbin supports amending the Constitution to remove these payments, which he believes are now unnecessary and ineffective in preventing corruption.
