Ghana needs knowledgeable judges in its Supreme Court – Mahama Ayariga

Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has expressed concerns about the judiciary's involvement in political matters after the Supreme Court stayed Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling that declared four parliamentary seats vacant.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe, Ayariga cited the 1968 U.S. Supreme Court case Baker v. Carr, arguing that some issues are inherently political and should be left to the legislature and executive.

He criticized the Supreme Court for acting hastily without hearing both sides and warned that such judicial interventions could lead to clashes between the branches of government.

Opinions remain divided over Bagbin’s decision and the court's ruling.
