Ghanaian, 2 other Africans vie for Commonwealth Secretary-General role in October

Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, is competing with Dr. Mamadou Tangara of The Gambia and Senator Joshua Setipa of Lesotho for the Commonwealth Secretary-General role, marking a historic all-African race.

The winner, to be chosen in October 2024, will shape the future of the Commonwealth.

On September 11, the candidates will debate at London’s Chatham House, where citizens can submit questions to be asked by moderator Zainab Bedawi.

This debate sets the stage for the final decision at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa.
