The Minority has accused the government of using the recent military deployment to enforce a grain export ban as a tactic to intimidate voters in the northern regions.
This follows a drought-related crisis that led to the ban on grain exports announced on August 26.
Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul confirmed that the military was sent to enforce the ban at the borders.
However, the Minority, led by Ranking Member James Agalga, suspects that the real motive is voter suppression, citing the lack of timelines for the military deployment as a cause for concern.
