Kwame Sarpong Asiedu, a research fellow at CDD-Ghana has supported the principle of requiring health insurance for visitors to prevent them from using public hospitals without paying.
However, he raised concerns about the transparency of the process, citing the lack of discussion by Cabinet and the short timeframe for implementation.
The Health Minister, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has clarified that the policy is still under consideration and has not been approved by Cabinet, contradicting earlier reports of a July 1 implementation date.
Asiedu questioned the rush and called for thorough scrutiny before implementation.
