President Nana Akufo-Addo, in his 2024 Founders’ Day address, rejected the idea that Ghana was founded by a single individual, specifically Kwame Nkrumah.
He emphasized that Ghana's independence was a collective effort involving many groups and individuals over generations.
In 2019, Ghana established August 4 as Founders’ Day to honor this collective struggle, while September 21 remains Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
Despite acknowledging Nkrumah's significant contributions, the president highlighted the roles of groups like the Aborigines Rights Protection and the United Gold Coast Convention in achieving independence.
