If E-levy had worked as anticipated, Ghana may not have gone to IMF – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), suggested that if the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) had met its revenue expectations, Ghana might have avoided seeking an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout.

His comments follow promises from both NPP and NDC presidential candidates to scrap the tax policy if they win the 2024 election.

Akomea praised the government's attempt to implement the E-Levy as a "homegrown alternative" to IMF support. He acknowledged the challenges the levy faced but maintained that its success could have altered Ghana’s financial path.
