Incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, Joseph Tetteh was on Saturday, June 20, 2020, affirmed as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the December 2020 elections.

The acclamation by the party’s delegates, constituency, and branch executives held at Asesewa at a colorful event, was graced by the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey failed parliamentary candidates from sister constituencies and some party bigwigs.

Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey who chaired the event encouraged faithful of the NPP and sympathizers to continue their unflinching support for Mr. Joseph Tetteh ahead of the December polls.

He expressed satisfaction at the success of the event and said the unity displayed by the party was enough assurance that a second successive victory for the party in the constituency was imminent.

Mr. Joseph Tetteh’s victory in the 2016 parliamentary elections marked the NPP’s first victory in any of the seven Dangme speaking areas and the first term MP is confident of retaining the seat come December.

In a charged message to delegates and party executives, the MP said, unlike the 2016 elections where about 3000 voters who voted for him did not vote for the party’s presidential candidate, the story will be different in December as he will retain the seat with the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akuffo Addo winning with same votes.

The jinx he has broken, he said, will encourage the party in other Dangme speaking areas to follow suit including future NPP parliamentary areas of Upper Manya.

He expressed his profound gratitude to party executives and delegates for their trust in him and expressed his confidence to maintain the seat for the party.

District Chief Executive (MCE) for Upper Manya Krobo, Felix Nartey Odjao assured polling station executives of the party’s support ahead of the elections to enable them to mobilize the necessary votes for the party.

Though he was confident of the party retaining its parliamentary seat in December, the assembly chief observed that no two elections were the same as the party was going to account for its stewardship in the 2020 elections.

Mr. Odjao praised the MP’s excellent contributions to various developmental projects in all 33 electoral areas of the district and maintained that he deserves another four years to continue his good works.

The acclamation was held at four electoral zones including Sekesua, Ternguanya, Otrokper with the climax taking place at Asesewa.

Joe T’s acclamation came after nominations closed in the constituency where he was the only candidate to pick forms in the constituency.

The NPP on Saturday held its primaries in constituencies with sitting MPs for the party.
