John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has linked the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to the poor governance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking during his campaign tour in Akim Oda, Mahama expressed disappointment at the team's decline, marking Ghana's first AFCON absence in 21 years.
He criticized the NPP’s eight-year rule, attributing Ghana's football struggles to the broader challenges facing the country. Mahama highlighted the humiliation of missing out while countries like Sudan, despite their difficulties, qualified.
Urging Ghanaians to vote for the NDC in the December 7 elections, Mahama promised to restore national pride, including the Black Stars’ dominance, under a revitalized leadership.
