Yusif Sulemana, Ranking Member on the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee, has criticized Trade Minister K.T Hammond for not following protocol in presenting a Legislative Instrument (L.I) to regulate cement prices.
Hammond bypassed the required consultation with the Trade Committee and substantive Legislative Committee, leading to legality issues and concerns from the Minority in Parliament.
Sulemana urged Hammond to engage in dialogue with stakeholders instead of relying on executive powers.
The L.I aims to regulate cement prices, which have recently increased, but the Minority blocked its presentation in Parliament, demanding further discussion.
