The Majority caucus in Parliament has countered the Minority’s criticism of the government’s tax waivers to companies under the One-District-One-Factory policy, arguing that the Mahama administration granted an even larger tax waiver in 2016.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin highlighted that the previous administration offered a $982 million tax waiver to Meridian Port Services, later reduced to $832 million.
He noted that the company still benefits from extensive tax exemptions, including corporate income tax and dividends taxes.
Afenyo-Markin called for similar benefits for indigenous businesses, emphasizing that tax waivers are essential for stimulating economic growth and attracting investments.
