John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 flagbearer for Ghana's National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to reduce the high costs of the Hajj pilgrimage if elected President.
Currently, the pilgrimage costs GH¢75,000, which Mahama deems excessively high. He made this promise during Eid prayers with the Ahlussuna Wal-Jamah Muslim group in Accra.
Concerns about the cost were echoed by former MASLOC Deputy CEO Mustapha Batalima Abubakar, who noted the significant fare increase from ₵11,900.00 during Mahama's previous tenure.
The current high costs have led many to seek alternative routes for the pilgrimage.
