John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has pledged to abolish the E-levy and other burdensome taxes if elected president in 2024.
Speaking at the 8th Ghana CEO Summit, he promised to stop excessive tax audits and EOCO harassment of businesses.
The E-levy, introduced in 2022 to boost domestic revenue, faced criticism and was reduced from 1.75% to 1%. Mahama emphasized reducing government expenditures, curbing waste and corruption, and expanding the tax net.
He aims to stabilise the economy and restore the currency, launching an economic recovery and fiscal consolidation plan within his first 100 days in office.
