The Minority in Parliament has blocked a legislative instrument from the Trade and Industry Ministry aimed at regulating cement prices in Ghana.
Trade Minister KT Hammond previously directed cement manufacturers to reverse recent price hikes, a decision rejected by manufacturers and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).
The NDC MPs demand the legislative instrument undergo pre-laying procedures before being formally laid.
However, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin contends that the NDC’s insistence on pre-laying all legislative instruments is unconstitutional and unnecessary, arguing that issues can be resolved when the document is properly before the committee.
