The CEO of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi, has disclosed that more small-scale mining licenses were issued during former President John Mahama’s era compared to President Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
This, he said, has contributed to the current challenges in the mining industry.
Speaking before the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament, Ayisi stressed the need for responsible mining and better oversight to prevent environmental damage.
He also opposed halting new mining licenses, arguing it could worsen illegal mining activities, known as "galamsey."
