A Deputy chief of staff, Francis Asenso Boakye says his reason for contesting the Bantama seat is backed by his vision to bring development to the area and address issues that affect the people of Bantama.
Discussing his vision on Angel Fm’s flagship programme, ‘Angel in the Morning’ hosted by Kwame Tanko, Mr Asenso said:
”What I’ve observed over the years is that Bantama is one of the largest constituency in Ghana, a constituency that vote massively for the New Patriotic Party(NPP)’ However, the constituency has seen little to no development. I believe if you’re Member of Parliament(MP) and you know people at the ‘top’, you’re able to pull more development to your area. I have had the interest to serve my people for long. Once I’m voted for I’ll leverage on my current position to bring development to my people”.
Stressing on some measures taken to bring out development, the Deputy Chief of Staff said he was focused on areas such as education, health, water and sanitation, sports and unemployment. As a development planning, project management, and policy specialist, I have the development interest of my people at heart. I’m highly aware of the issues in the Bantama constituency and that remains my utmost priority, he added .
Job creation
When we talk youth, we talk jobs. exactly what the youth need to survive; And so if I’m given the nod, I’ll constitute a skills training team to take the youth in Bantama who are mainly shoe makers through the appropriate skills training. I have a programme where i want to bring all these persons together, train and give them start up capital. Whatever we will do to employ the youth will be done. We want to build an entrepreneurial base at Bantama. I believe in self-employment and that is how we want to empower the people economically”, he said.
Projects undertaken so far
In May 2020, Mr Asenso Boakye presented 700 pieces of streetlight to all eight electoral areas within the Bantama sub-metro as part of efforts to improve security in the constituency.
He also lobbied the National Lottery Authority to finance the construction of an AstroTurf at Cocoa Ase Park in Bantama.
Asenso-Boakye collaborated with the Bantama Metro Directorate to organise quiz competition for students in the area. Participating schools received books, laptops and materials to enhance their studies.
