NDC running mate selection: Bawumia has lost clouts, can’t be a yardstick – Agalga

Opposition NDC Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga says Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lost the huge influence he had before he assumed office, hence can’t be a yardstick for the NDC in the selection of a Running mate for the upcoming general elections.

A cross-section of the pubic has touted the economic prowess of the current Vice President who was once a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana as key to his prominence, bringing to bare the need for the opposition NDC to field a running mate who fits the role of countering this said strengths.

Some political analysts say Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2016 electioneering campaign was “too hot” and also a “thorn in the flesh” of the NDC with his sound economic criticism.

But speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM, Hon. James Agalga who was a former Deputy Minister of Interior is no economic prophet as he was touted as he’s been hugely exposed since assuming office.

“Dr. Bawumia cannot be our yardstick in the choosing of a running mate. With the greatest of respect, Dr. Bawumia has lost so much I don’t want to use harsh words but he’s lost a lot of clouts. Dr. Bawumia was pushed to say a lot of things which turned out to be untrue. All the talk about arresting the Cedi and handing over the keys to the IGP, what has happened, who stood surety for the Cedi to be granted bail. The Cedi is not in the sight of the Police any longer.

Agalga added: “He talked about borrowing being a lazy man’s approach to governance but this government has gone down in the annals of the country’s history as the government that has borrowed so much but has very little to show for the massive borrowing. All these are the words Dr. Bawumia spewed, so why should we use such a person as a yardstick for the selection of our running mate. We are going to present a very credible running mate who when he speaks everybody would want to listen and trust that this is somebody we can believe in.”
