NPP big wigs preferred Ambrose Dery as Akufo-Addo’s running mate in 2008 – Manasseh’s book reveals

In the book dubbed 'The President Ghana Never Got' by Manasseh Azure Awuni, it is revealed that top officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) initially preferred Ambrose Dery as Nana Akufo-Addo's running mate for the 2008 election, citing his political charisma and ability to energize voters.

However, Akufo-Addo insisted on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, valuing his economic expertise.

Despite initial resistance and calls to replace Bawumia after the 2008 loss, Akufo-Addo maintained his choice, emphasizing fairness and the importance of complementing skills.

Bawumia's strong performance during the 2012 election petition further solidified his position, leading to unanimous support for him as the running mate in 2016.
