NPP can’t be complacent - Apraku

Former Trade and Industry Minister, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, has warned that it will be politically suicidal for NPP to be complacent in the upcoming polls, despite clear indications that the party is winning the elections.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray Wednesday, he said it will be foolhardy for anyone to assume that the party will easily win the elections.

Asked by Bola Ray whether he thought that the NPP is winning the December 7 polls, he answered “absolutely… absolutely.”

“…But I’m not gonna sit here and tell NPP people we have already won the elections. It cannot be the case that we in opposition working against an incumbent government can take anything for granted,” he added.

He continued: “…We have been there before. If you lose an election twice in a row you have to be very careful with your attitude to the election.”

Mr. Apraku said everything is in place for the party to return to power nevertheless, the party has to be a lot more strategic “than perhaps we have been before.”

For him, the NPP presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been marketed well over the years, and will be unfortunate for him to lose for the third time running.

“Right now a lot of people know Akufo-Addo. He has been around and we have an excellent chance to win. We must not relax and be so presumptuous. We have to work as if we have lost the election,” Dr Apraku cautioned.
