Organised Labour accused of meddling in politics over galamsey demands

Dr. Sampson Anomah, a senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, has criticized Organised Labour for engaging in politics by demanding the government declare a state of emergency over illegal mining (galamsey).

He argued that Organised Labour’s role is to protect workers’ rights, not lead national protests on political issues, especially so close to elections.

In response, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining defended Organised Labour’s stance, saying the galamsey crisis is a matter of national survival, not politics, and urged action to protect Ghana’s water bodies and communities.
