Rawlings is NDC’s soul - Party leaders told

Former President Jerry John Rawlings remains the soul of the opposition National Democratic Congress and without him the party he founded may not be able to blossom, Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult has said.

“No matter how far the branch of a tree grows, it can’t be better than the root that gave it birth. Charismatic JJ is not a spent force”, Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult, Alhaji Irbard Ibrahim has asserted.

He has, therefore, advised leadership of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) to make the daughter of former President JJ Rawlings, Zanetor Rawlings the running mate of John Mahama, flagbearer of the NDC.

In the opinion of the eloquent security analyst, this move will win back the support of former President Rawlings who is the founder of the NDC, but is seen by many not to have fully thrown his weight behind the party.

“Every party has got a soul. Jerry Rawlings is the soul of the NDC. Make his daughter Zanetor running mate to John Dramani Mahama and you’ll marvel at the outcome,” Alhaji Ibrahim appealed on Facebook.

He explains that in order to win back the support of former President Rawlings and that of the youth, Zanetor Rawlings who is the Member of Parliament for Korley-Klottey in the Greater Accra, will be the best bet.

“Flag bearer John Dramani Mahama can make Zanetor his running mate to win back Jerry Rawlings and his wife and also attract female and young voters,” he expatiated.

Many names such as Haruna Iddrisu, Johnson Asiama, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia and several others have been reported to be considered as running mates.

But Zanetor Rawlings and Professor Kwesi Botchwey seem to feature more prominently in reports. In August, there were reports that Kwesi Botchwey, Ghana’s longest-serving Finance Minister had been chosen by John Mahama awaiting approval by the party. He turned out to be untrue.

Alhaji Ibrahim’s advice on choosing Zanetor Rawlings comes at a time many have speculated that NDC’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is been considered to partner with John Mahama as running mate.
